A Little Bit of Soul in Wasaga Beach

Updated: Mar 26, 2022

A Taste of Soul is a small business out of Wasaga Beach run by husband and wife team Gwyn Beaver and Shawn Pitre. Gwyn, who is originally from Texas, wanted to bring Southern cooking to the Simcoe County area and developed a unique business model that offers food, fun and education.

Not only do they offer “Sunday Soul” where you can order Gwyn’s delicious cooking through Local Street Marketplace for pick up in Barrie or delivery in Wasaga Beach on the first Sunday of every month, but they also offer a number of their items at Farm 2 Door in Tiny who offers local pick up at their retail store or delivery in Midland, Penetang, Tay and Tiny.

Now here is where things start to get really creative, A Taste of Soul also offers virtual cooking classes where participants can choose to learn to make either gumbo and beer bread or jambalaya. I recently participated in the jambalaya class and it was such a fun evening! For $30 per person, Gwyn and Sean provide a shopping list and virtual link and then lead between 5-20 participants through the creation of a beautiful meal while sharing information about the origins of the dish as well as sharing components of Louisiana Cajun and Creole culture. As they are both musicians, there is also a fun musical component to the event, which I think would be a great activity for family, friends or team-building.

Last but not least, A Taste of Soul also hosts pop-up dinners where you choose from a selection of menu items and they will come to your home, prepare a family style meal for 5-10 participants and then clean-up after! This is next on my list to try, and at $60 per person, the pricing is extremely reasonable!

Find a Taste of Soul on their website or Instagram and be sure to keep them in mind if you’re looking for something delicious, unique and fun!
