A Perfect Adult Getaway to Niagara Falls: Things to do, Where to Eat and Where to Stay

Updated: Aug 27

Niagara Falls is often seen as a family-friendly destination, but it also offers plenty of attractions and experiences tailored for adults looking to enjoy a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and gourmet dining. Here's a guide to making the most of your time in this iconic location with things to do, places to eat and places to stay.

Start with the Thrill of the Whitewater Walk

Kick off your visit with the Whitewater Walk, a breathtaking boardwalk journey along the edge of the Niagara River’s lower rapids. These Class 6 rapids are among the wildest in North America, and as you walk alongside them, you can feel the power of the water rushing past. It's a serene yet thrilling experience that sets the tone for your adventure.

Take in the Views from the Skylon Tower

After immersing yourself in nature, head to the Skylon Tower Observation Deck for a bird's-eye view of the falls. Standing 775 feet above the Niagara Gorge, this observation deck offers panoramic views that are simply unforgettable. On a clear day, you can see as far as Toronto on one side and Buffalo, New York, on the other.

Get Up Close with the Falls on the Hornblower Boat Tour

No visit to Niagara Falls is complete without getting up close to the falls themselves. The Hornblower boat tour takes you right into the heart of the action, where you'll feel the mist and hear the thunderous roar of the water as it crashes down. It's a thrilling experience that puts you face-to-face with one of the natural wonders of the world.

Indulge Your Inner Child on Clifton Hill

Clifton Hill is the entertainment hub of Niagara Falls, offering a nostalgic mix of carnival-style attractions, arcades, and quirky museums. Even as adults, there's something liberating about indulging in the playful atmosphere. Whether it's riding the Niagara SkyWheel for stunning views or exploring a wax museum, arcade or haunted house, Clifton Hill is all about fun.

Enjoy a Jet Boat Tour for an Adrenaline Rush

For those seeking more adventure, a jet boat tour on the Niagara River is a must. These high-speed boats take you on an exhilarating ride through the Niagara Gorge, where you'll experience the power of the river's rapids firsthand. It's a wet and wild adventure perfect for thrill-seekers.

Explore the Butterfly Conservatory

The Butterfly Conservatory offers a peaceful contrast to the high-energy activities of the day. Located on the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, this conservatory is home to over 2,000 colorful butterflies. Walking through the lush, tropical environment as butterflies flutter around you is a calming and enchanting experience.

Stroll to the Falls and Experience the Fireworks

After a day of excitement, take a leisurely stroll to the falls. The sight of the illuminated falls at night is mesmerizing, and during the summer months, you can catch the nightly fireworks show. The combination of the falls' natural beauty and the spectacular fireworks display is a magical way to end the evening.

Try Your Luck at the Casino

For those who enjoy a bit of nightlife and excitement, a visit to Fallsview Casino is a great way to end the day. Whether you’re a seasoned gambler, or just looking to try your luck, the casino offers a variety of gaming options, from slot machines to table games. Enjoy the lively atmosphere, grab a drink, catch a show at the OLG stage and see if Lady Luck is on your side.

Take a Detour to Niagara on the Lake

If you have enough time, Niagara on the Lake is a nearby area not to be missed. For more information, check out my blog post on things to do and places to eat and stay in Niagara on the Lake.

Where to Eat: Culinary Delights in Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls boasts a variety of dining options to satisfy your culinary cravings:

- Taco 'n Tequila: Enjoy Mexican cuisine indoors or on a lively patio, perfect for a fun, casual meal after a day of exploring.

- Winekeller: This cozy spot is one of my favourites in the falls. They offer a choice of a fixed price 3 or 5 course meal ideal for wine lovers, as 2 of those “courses” can be alcohol. Don't miss out on the fried goat cheese appetizer.

- Tide and Vine: A must-visit for seafood enthusiasts, Tide and Vine serves up fresh oysters and other ocean delicacies.

- Zappi’s Pizza & Pasta: For a more casual dining experience, head to Zappi’s for a slice of their famous pizza.

- AG Inspired Cuisine: Elevate your dining experience with a visit to AG Inspired Cuisine, where farm-to-table dishes are prepared with seasonal, local ingredients.

Where to Stay: Comfortable and Stylish Accommodations

End your day in comfort at one of Niagara Falls' boutique hotels or in a room with a view:

- Stirling Inn and Spa: This charming inn offers a luxurious spa experience, making it the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate after a day of adventure.

- Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel: With its historic charm and modern amenities, the Old Stone Inn provides a unique and cozy stay in the heart of Niagara Falls. Their restaurant , The Flour Mill Scratch Kitchen also serves a great brunch.

- Hilton Niagara Falls: For a stay that combines luxury with unbeatable views, the Hilton Fallsview is an excellent choice. Overlooking both the American and Horseshoe Falls and connected to the casino, this hotel offers spacious rooms, an indoor pool, and several on-site dining options (Corso is a great choice and Watermark has the best breakfast views around), making it a convenient and comfortable base for your Niagara Falls adventure.
