A Visitor's Guide to Prince Edward County: Things to do, Places to Eat and Drink and Where to Stay

Nestled in southeastern Ontario, Prince Edward County is a haven for foodies, wine enthusiasts, and nature lovers. This guide will help you discover the best of what the County has to offer, from shopping and dining to wineries and cozy accommodations.


Things to Do


Shop in Downtown Picton

Picton's charming downtown area is perfect for a leisurely stroll. Explore boutique shops, art galleries, and local markets. Don't miss out on The Ye11ow for the most gorgeous pottery and Zest Kitchen Shop for anything your heart desires for your kitchen. 


Wellington Farmers' Market

Held on Saturdays, the Wellington Farmers' Market is a bustling hub of local produce, artisanal goods, and crafts. It's a fantastic spot to sample fresh, local flavors and pick up unique souvenirs.


Fifth Town Cheese

Visit Fifth Town Artisan Cheese for a taste of award-winning cheeses made with local ingredients. The sustainable practices, samples and delicious varieties make this a must-stop for cheese lovers.


Sandbanks Provincial Park

Famous for its stunning sand dunes and beautiful beaches, Sandbanks Provincial Park offers outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, and picnicking. It's an ideal spot for families and nature enthusiasts.


Prince Edward County Lavender

Lavender lovers visiting during late June and early July shouldn’t miss out on a stop at Prince Edward County Lavender. Explore their fields, sit in their big purple chair for a photo op.,  and be sure to visit their store for all the lavender goodness.



Mustang Drive-In

If you’re looking for a bit of nostalgia, a visit to the Mustang Drive-In will scratch that itch. Dating back to the 1950’s they’re open late June to early September with double features playing Wednesday to Sunday each week.


Wineries and More


Prince Edward County is known for its over 40 wineries. The area is particularly known for its Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. You can’t really go wrong with any of the wineries, which are all unique and lovely but here are some of my favourite wineries, cideries and distilleries in the area.  


Closson Chase

Known for its elegant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and distinctive photo worthy purple building, Closson Chase is a staple in Prince Edward County's wine scene. Enjoy a tasting in their picturesque barn setting or outdoors. 



Old Salt Cocktails 

The Old Salt Cocktails mobile trailer is a unique treat. Sip a handcrafted cocktail and grab a gourmet hotdog while taking in the scenic vineyard views.


Waupoos Winery

Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, Waupoos Winery is known for its breathtaking views and exceptional wines. Don't miss the chance to dine at their on-site restaurant for a farm-to-table experience. Their tours are also excellent. While you’re there be sure to pip across the street to visit the free little petting zoo. 



Kinsip House of Fine Spirits

For those who prefer spirits, Kinsip House of Fine Spirits offers tastings of their handcrafted spirits. Their charming farm setting adds to the unique experience. A must visit in Prince Edward County. 



County Cider Co. 

Enjoy a refreshing cider while overlooking the stunning views of Prince Edward Bay. County Cider Co. offers a wide variety of ciders made from local apples as well as sampling of their products. 


Old Third Vineyard

This small, family-owned the Old Third Vineyard is known for its cider and sparkling wines. The rustic setting and high-quality wines make it a delightful stop. Keep an eye out for their delicious Italian food pop-ups. 


Huff Estates Winery and Sculpture Garden

Combine art and wine at Huff Estates, where you can explore a beautiful sculpture garden while sipping on their acclaimed wines.



Places to Eat


Vic Social 

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Vic Social in Picton. Known for its delicious coffee and creative breakfast options, it's the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploration.


Flame + Smith

Located in Bloomfield, Flame + Smithis a wood-fired eatery that focuses on sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients. Their menu features a variety of delectable dishes cooked to perfection.



Sand and Pearl Oyster Bar

For seafood lovers, Sand and Pearl Oyster Bar in the heart of Prince Edward County offers fresh oysters and seafood dishes in a relaxed, beachy atmosphere. A must visit if you love fresh seafood! 



Restaurant at Merrill House

Experience fine dining at the Restaurant at Merrill House in Picton. If you want to celebrate a special occasion, the historic setting and gourmet menu create an unforgettable dining experience. 


Slickers Ice Cream

Cool off with a scoop of homemade small batch ice cream from Slickers in Picton or Bloomfield. Their unique flavors, like Campfire and Rhubarb Ginger, are a must-try.


The Miller House at Lake on the Mountain

Enjoy a meal with a view on the patio at The Miller House, located at the scenic Lake on the Mountain. Their menu features a variety of delicious dishes, perfect for lunch or dinner.
