Grey County, nestled in the picturesque landscape of Ontario, is a haven for wine and cider enthusiasts. Its rolling hills, fertile soil, and cool climate create an ideal environment for vineyards and orchards. Let's take a tour of some of the most notable wineries and cideries that make Grey County a must-visit destination for connoisseurs and casual sippers alike.

The Roost Wine Company

Perched on a hilltop overlooking Beaver Valley in Clarksburg, The Roost Wine Company offers a breathtaking view to accompany its meticulously crafted wines. Established on a family farm, The Roost combines traditional methods with a modern approach, producing small-batch wines that capture the essence of the region. Their tasting room, housed in a renovated barn, provides a cozy yet elegant setting to sample their diverse offerings, from crisp whites to robust reds. Be sure to book your tasting ahead of time, I recommend the Deluxe Tasting which also includes a charcuterie and cheese plate.

Georgian Hills Vineyards

Georgian Hills Vineyards is a gem located in the Blue Mountains, where the cool climate is perfect for growing a variety of grapes. They also house the Ardiel Cider House. The vineyard’s philosophy revolves around sustainability and terroir-driven wines, each reflecting the unique character of the Georgian Bay region. Visitors can enjoy tastings in a serene setting, surrounded by lush vineyards.

Coffin Ridge Winery, with its evocative name, promises an experience as distinctive as its wines. Located near Meaford, this winery is known for its bold and adventurous spirit. The unique terroir imparts distinct flavors to their grapes, resulting in wines that are both surprising and delightful. Their Back From the Dead Red and Resurrection Rosé are local favorites, offering rich and nuanced profiles that captivate the palate. They also serve a “vintners plate” of cheeses and accompaniments to compliment your wine tasting.

Thornbury Craft Co.

Thornbury Craft Co. stands out as a premier producer of both wine and cider. Situated in the charming town of Thornbury, this establishment boasts a diverse portfolio that includes award-winning ciders and wines. The cider house uses locally sourced apples, crafting beverages that range from traditional dry ciders to innovative fruit blends. Their tasting room is a vibrant space where visitors can enjoy flights of cider, wine, and even craft beer.

Spy Cider House and Distillery

Spy Cider House and Distillery is a relatively new player in the Grey County cider scene but has quickly made a name for itself. Located near Clarksburg, Spy produces a variety of ciders that emphasize quality and craft. Their orchard is managed with a commitment to biodiversity and sustainability. In addition to cider, they have started to explore the world of craft spirits, making it a diverse stop for beverage aficionados. They also have a great patio to enjoy your beverages in the warmer weather.

Grey and Gold Cider

Grey and Gold Cider,  nestled in the heart of Grey County, focuses on producing traditional ciders with a modern twist. Using apples from their own orchard, they create ciders that highlight the natural flavors of the fruit. Their commitment to minimal intervention and natural fermentation processes results in ciders that are both authentic and innovative. The rustic charm of their cidery provides a perfect backdrop for tastings.

Windswept Cider
