Glen Oro Farm: Where Camping Meets Luxury

Glen Oro Farm is a glamping escape nestled into the hills of Oro Medonte, just south of Orillia Ontario. With two types of accommodations, tents and domes, even the most reluctant camper can connect with nature while still finding comfort at this unique venue.

During my first visit, we stayed in the “Explorers Tent”, a large canvas tent in the middle of the forest, complete with electricity, indoor plumbing, a sitting area, wood stove and kitchenette. For my second visit, I stayed in a “Stargazer Dome”, a similarly well appointed facility with a king size bed in a loft space situated directly under a large skylight so you can fall asleep to a view of the starry sky. Both locations also had outdoor seating around a private fire pit as well, perfect for evening relaxation.

During their stay, guests can wander the forest, use the sauna, hike up Oro Mountain, explore the grounds including a lovely garden and stable area or book a trail ride.

During one of my visits I booked a private trail ride which was unique in that not only do you have an opportunity to ride the horses but you also get to groom and dress them for the ride prior to taking your guided tour through some of the most beautiful terrain in Oro-Medonte.

If you're not planning on cooking all of your own meals during your stay, don’t worry, Glen Oro has you covered. You can order breakfast or charcuterie boxes to be delivered from Chopped Canada Champion Melanie Robinson’s Eclectic Cafe in Orillia, or book private chef Paul Laforet of Laforet Catering to cook a 3 course private dinner over the fire, which was one of the highlights of our visit. Also close by are some of my favourite local spots, Quayles Brewery and Ktchn Restaurant at Braestone.

After two magical visits to Glen Oro Farm where we experienced both the Explorers Tent and Stargazer Dome, I can honestly say that both are amazing. To book your stay or learn more about this beautiful glamping getaway, visit them on their website, Instagram or Facebook.
